چکیده

Lonar Impact Crater is a simple meteorite impact crater carved out on the ~ 65 Ma old Deccan tholeiitic flood basalts. The crater, though scoured in basaltic terrain, still preserved its most pristine form, with central lake. geomorphology, geochemistry, geochronology, hydrology, geophysical parameters, and structural aspects of have been explored detail, but continue to contribute valid scientific insights into geology terrestrial craters. serves as potential analog site for studying cratering planetary surfaces terrains such Moon Mars. Besides being highly recognizable India, hinterland stand archeological relevance spiritual influence among people. numerous temples around premises uphold cultural significance region. adjacent areas are rich flora fauna representing diverse ecosystem vastness arid Flood Basalts. Hence, astrobleme surrounding declared Ramsar also protected wildlife sanctuary. Indian Government has National Geological Monument well an archaeological monument. Furthermore, unique socio-cultural economic significance. With these plethoras importance, combined geological hinterland, together acclaimed UNESCO world heritage centers Ajantha Ellora caves neighborhood, it stands right candidate Global Geopark. However, not enough, uniqueness diminishing. But after selection site, area shows increased vegetation growth. SWOT analysis conducted this study accounts adjoining global geopark. Thus, through study, we try propagate vivid myriad importance necessity protecting monument from both anthropogenic natural processes appraise nominating

Structural effects of meteorite impact on basalt: Evidence from Lonar crater, India

[1] Lonar crater is a simple, bowl-shaped, near-circular impact crater in the 65 Myr old Deccan Volcanic Province in India. As Lonar crater is a rare terrestrial crater formed entirely in basalt, it provides an excellent opportunity to study the impact deformation in target basalt, which is common on the surfaces of other terrestrial planets and their satellites. The present study aims at docum...

Spurious periods in the terrestrial impact crater record

We present a simple solution to the controversy over periodicity in the ages of terrestrial impact craters and the epochs of mass extinctions of species. The first evidence for a 28.4 million year cycle in catastrophic impacts on Earth was presented in 1984. Our re-examination of this earlier Fourier power spectrum analysis reveals that the rounding of the impact crater data distorted the Monte...

Alamo Impact Crater Documented

Introduction: The early Late Devonian, wet-target Alamo Event at southern Nevada resulted in one of the best-exposed and well-dated impact deposits ever documented, the Alamo Breccia [1]. Because post-impact geologic processes have modified, obscured [2, 3] and perhaps wiped away its original morphological and architectural relationships, the crater stratigraphy has remained uncertain. Thus, th...
